The Evolution of Online Slot Machines

The online slots industry is in the midst of one of its most interesting periods ever. Over the past decade, online slots have enjoyed a meteoric rise from the grey anonymity of the web to the wild glamour of Las Vegas.

Online slots have come a long way since the early days of online gambling. From the first ‘money wheel’ with free spins, pgslot  to the ever evolving gameplay and gimmicks of the modern slots machine, here’s a look at the history of online slots.

The Classic Slot Machine

For the first few years of the online casino industry, slot machines were one of the most popular types of casino games. Like table games and roulette, the early slot machines were fairly simple.

The objective of a slot machine is to be able to predict when a winning combination will occur. The more you bet, the more likely you are to win.

Slot machines were essentially a mechanical roulette wheel with a set of payout combinations. The first real breakthrough in online slots occurred when a company called IGT (International Game Technology) decided to launch a new type of machine called the ‘video slot’.

These slot machines were based on the same concept as the traditional ‘money wheel’. They were slightly more complex than the earlier machines, but the main difference was the use of video rather than mechanical graphics.

These machines were first released in the United States in 1996. A year later, IGT decided to set up a new subsidiary called Net Entertainment. Net Entertainment decided to create an entirely new type of game that would be very different from anything else available on the web.

The idea behind the new game was to simulate the classic slot machine experience without the need for any physical hardware. They created a new type of software called ‘virtual reality’.

This was not just a software application, pgslot  it was a brand new type of game. The first game to be developed by Net Entertainment was called ‘Reel Power’.

The game featured a simple theme of slot machine-style gameplay with new ‘scatter’ features. The game also introduced the use of realistic graphics and sound.

The unique gameplay of Reel Power became the blueprint for the type of games that Net Entertainment would produce in the future. The main advantage of this new software technology was that it would allow the company to create games that were far more immersive than anything that had come before it.

The first virtual reality games were produced by Net Entertainment and they were hugely successful. The company was the first to bring the first truly ‘virtually realistic’ online slots experience to the world.
